Cyclists return to Reading June 5

The Reading Classic, the second leg of the Commerce Bank Triple Crown of Cycling, will be held June 5, 2008.

Some 500 cyclists, professionals and amateurs, are expected to race on the streets of downtown Reading.

Festivities will begin at 9 a.m. with an outdoor expo where fans can visit booths of local businesses.

Starting at 10 a.m., the elite men’s teams will take to the course for a 35-mile criterion, or short race, followed by the 25-mile women’s elite race at 11:15 a.m.

The pros are scheduled at 1 p.m. for the grueling 75-mile race, expecting to end at 4-4:30 p.m.

Schedule for Race Day:

6:00am ALL parked cars must be off of race route [cars will be towed if not moved]

9:00am Downtown [short] course will be closed to ALL traffic

10:00am Start of Amateur race

11:15pm Start of Women’s race

12 NOON ENTIRE course will be closed to ALL traffic

1:00pm Start of Pro Cycling race

4:30pm Finish of race and Award Ceremony
